The White Rose Charity Ball is the brainchild of Linda Larder, a former marketing director who was working as a volunteer in The Holocaust Centre’s coffee lounge.
“When you visit The Holocaust Centre, you are filled with passion, hope and peace. When I heard that it might close down through lack of money I couldn’t let that happen,” says Linda, who called on family and friends to form a small but highly energetic fundraising committee.
Hosted by Bernie Katz (aka ‘The Prince of Soho’ and House Manager at the famous London private members’ club The Groucho), their collective enthusiasm was fired by the chance to visit the Centre for themselves, where they met the Centre’s Chairman and founder Dr James Smith and listened to a talk by Auschwitz survivor Arek Hersh.
“In giving up careers and their family home to create such a moving place of memory and education, the Smith family have shown what a huge difference a few people can make if they really care,” says Bernie. “We hope the White Rose Ball will inspire others to use their wealth and talents to follow that example.”
